Results: scenario runs

For evaluations of the WCA-2A Wading Bird Suitability Project, we use relative comparisons of the (ELM rule-based) proposed ("bird") stage regulation schedule to the (ELM rule-based) current regulation schedule. Moreover, we provide comparisons of the (ELM rule-based) current regulation schedule to the simulation of the 2010 Existing Condition Base with all managed structure flows driven by the SFWMM v6.6. Another simulation is provided that employs the ELM rule-based proposed schedule, but with no rainfall or ET, i.e., no natural variability and thus resulting in water depths that adhere very closely to the regulation schedule.

Performance Measures: Maps
Map header label-syntax: ScenarioName.TemporalStatistic.VariableName_DateOfOutput; the temporal statistics are either Raw (raw output, no summary), MeanRaw (daily mean over a 30d bin), MeanPOS (mean over the 36yr Period Of Simulation), GeoMeanAnn (annual geometric mean), or for calculated rates - the rate between a beginning-date and ending-date (for P accumulation and peat accretion rates).

Raw output files (currentSched, birdSched)

ForEverView.zip 11.4 Mb, May 28, 2015 - A zip archive of the "Raw" model output of a) the Water Depth Relative to Land Surface (RelDepPosNegAvg), and b) the Wading Bird Recession Rates (Hyd_reccAvg), for the two simulations, in netCDF format; each netCDF file is a map-time-series of 30-day mean variable values during the 36-yr Period of Simulation.

This self-documented netCDF file adheres to the CERP netCDF standard). See multiple options for OpenSource software to view and analyze netCDF data.

We recommend the use of "EverVIEW", an excellent, free software tool developed by the USGS to visualize and analyze netCDF files, available at this Joint Ecosystem Modeling web page.

To use the ELM output files and Everview, unzip the above archive of model output. The directory contains a netCDF spatial time series (monthly means for 36 yr, with metadata embedded) for the two variables for each scenario in a separate directory.

There are three xml "EverView State" files in the upper level directory, called
• "RelDepth_current_bird_scheds.esf" (2 Globes: depth-only, 2 scenarios),
• "Recess_current_bird_scheds.esf" (2 Globes: recession-only, 2 scenarios), and
• "RelDepth_Recess_current_bird_scheds.esf" (4 Globes: depth & recession, 2 scenarios).


Simply install EverView, then (under "File" menu), open a State file. EverView will then automagically load the currentSched run in the left "Globe", and the birdSched scenario in the right "Globe", with appropriate color tables. Click on the Animation button, and you'll see side-by-side animations of the two scenarios. For all "Globes", we also selected a few points where you can see point time series graphs. Note: the 4-Globes version is informative, but very slow in animations....
